Seven Day Job Search

The first step is to spend Monday writing your resume, but before you do be sure to adhere to the following quick tips.

Your resume is not a place to list everything. Include only what’s relevant to the job you’re looking for.

Another general rule of thumb is if you have 8 years or less experience you’re really looking at a 1-page resume.

Now, once you’ve redone your resume you’ll need a killer cover letter. What works in the year 2005 are stories of your accomplishments. Focus on a problem that you faced, and a story of how you approached it with a positive solution all within a space of two or three lines.

On Tuesday, your task is to identify 25 employers you want to work for. Once you’ve got a list of them, research the companies. If you really want to search for a job you’re going to enjoy, prosper in, and have upward mobility, you’re going to want to find a job that’s a good fit.

Wednesday it’s time to pick up the phone and start calling potential employers to see if they’re hiring.

By making 25-30 calls a day, you will have made 125 contacts ins 5 days, and there’s a good chance that you will have gotten great leads.

With the leads you’ve gotten, use Thursday and Friday for sending out letters and emails to apply for the jobs you have found.

The last two days, Saturday and Sunday, are for waiting to see if you here from the contacts you made, and for preparing to follow up with possible employers the next business day.

It might take a few months before you get the actual job offer and see the fruits of your labor, but according to our expert, by following these steps a new job will be within your grasp.
