Job hunters face problems on the Internet
Job seekers are waking up to a new concern: their web identities, the crucial link in getting a crack at the best jobs today.
Most jobs are never posted; recruiters are focused on “passive candidates” who are happy in their jobs. How do the invisible jobs get filled?
Eighty percent of top recruiters use the Web to find candidates, so it’s not just who you know but whether you can be found.
A ZoomInfo.com survey revealed web users are very concerned that the Web doesn’t provide recruiters with enough good information about them.
Seventy percent of respondents were concerned that there is not enough information about them. Sixty expected that recruiters were more likely than even friends and colleagues to be searching for them on the Web.
“Resumes are dead. How you present yourself on the Web today is the most important way to make your accomplishments known,” says Russell Glass of Zoom Information “New tools like zoominfo.com give you the power to manage your Web identity and come up in search results the way you want potential employers to see you.”
According to the survey, seventy percent of respondents have been contacted “out of the blue” by someone who found their contact information on the Web and forty percent are concerned about false information about them on the Web. To help job seekers present themselves to recruiters on the Web, Zoom Information offers the following suggestions:
– Post more professional information on frequently visited, well-respected blogs or forums, ones that emerge high on the list of Internet search results
– Create your own blog or Web site to post professional information and comments
