How To Make A Resume That Gets Results

When you make a resume, the bottom line is, your resume must convince a potential employer that you are the person that has the skills and qualities they are looking for and that they should hire you.
There are a number of features you need to apply when creating your resume to ensure you get your desired results. Make sure you don’t jeopardize your chances by poor resume writing.
Targeted:
Make sure that your resume is very targeted. Use the keywords that the employer has put in their advertisement. Don’t include anything that doesn’t specifically apply to the vacancy you are applying for; this will stop you from filling the resume with information not related to the job. Have a different resume for each position.
Consistent:
Keep the same text styles throughout your resume. Ensure that things like margins, borders and spacing are consistent throughout. Important points should be emphasized by underlining or using italics.
Summarise Qualifications:
It is vitally important to attract the employers attention fast, and the easiest way to do this is to have well constructed job objectives or a summary of qualifications. Many people fail to do this and as a result miss a major opportunity to make a quick impression.
Abbreviations:
Don’t use abbreviations. They are seen to be unprofessional. What you understand your abbreviation to mean, may not have the same meaning to your prospective employer.
Grammatically Correct:
In the same vein, the quickest route to the “round file†is using poor grammar. If your resume has typing errors and spelling mistakes it is assumed that your work will be poor as well. Don’t think your spell checker is infallible. “Eye Sea Ewe†might be spelled correct but is useless if it should have been “I see Youâ€
Well Written:
Although the layout of your resume is of great importance, ultimately it is the content that will attract and keep the interest of the employer. It is really important that you make your resume in a way that causes it to stand out. You must sell yourself, and the way to do this is through the use of action words.
Action words emphasize your skills and achievements. They empower your resume, unlike passive words.
“Responsible for sales in my division†– Ho Hum! “Increased sales in my division by 30% “ – grabs attention
