The description of the values of Facebook and Linked In need some more clarification.
Linked In gives you more detail about each person initially than Facebook. One drawback is that if you conatct people you don't know you can be disqualified from using Linked in. This makes it difficult for people who have few contacts to meet people who can help their career. It's focused on people you know. Facebook is more community. You can ask to connect to people who can either accept or ignore, without penalty. The disadvantage is that you get little detail until you connect. On Facebook you can identify communities that you can join and events you would like to attend. Despite some recent changes to Linked in, it is still cumbersome to use other than one-on-one communication. I recommend to my clients to use both.
