Still not using Linkedin in your job hunt? You will find it useful. Many folks are completely unaware that this tool is one of the most powerful out there for your job hunt. Networking is acknowledged as the best tool out there by experts. Still some 80% of the population only takes networking seriously when they need something. LinkedIn is too good for that, even if you only need answers from experts this site will come to the rescue. The great part about this is all the services you will need are free on Linkedin.

As for job hunting your first step must be filling out your whole profile on LinkedIn. Second, use the import feature to have all your email contact information copied out of your computer and transferred to your profile. Now use those contacts you already have to make connections in your profile. The payoff of doing this, they or their friends could easily help you just when you need it most by providing you with an insider’s referral as you apply to their company. Don’t worry if your friends list is a little bit slim when you first join up as this will soon change. To boost your credibility in the eyes of others viewing your profile you want to get recommendations from others. This way you will show up in search results as you have proven yourself legit to the networking community on LinkedIn.

Once you have completed your profile, you are ready to leverage your efforts. First of all you can make announcements to your network by filling in the top box in your profile entitled: What I am working on now. So if you are looking for a Jewelry Appraisers Job this is where you announce it. This way others can help you in your search. Another big help will be professional groups. If you have a profession odds are there is a professional group accessible through LinkedIn for it. The typical results from a group are: More connections, the ability to get inside information about specific employers, the ability to be referred by those connections you make, the ability to get internships and freelance work so you have a chance to show your skills, gain knowledge and grow in your profession.

LinkedIn has job listings too. The neat thing about them is you can instantly find out who you know at the company you might be interested in. If you don’t know someone directly they could be a friend of one of your friends. You have a great opportunity to connect since you have a mutual acquaintance in common. In some cases you may have to be a little bit more outgoing than you are used to but once your stretch your mind with this new ability you will never shrink back. After your first month or two on the site you will likely have a bushel of connections. The neat thing about LinkedIn is that all the instructions are straight forward. Since you are looking for a new career position or advancement make sure your whole profile is finished and professional. Some job hunters I have written resumes for insist on adding their profile address on their cover letters & resumes. However, I would only do this if you had a great profile, but of course that is the whole object of the game. Welcome to the wonderful new world of networking.
