Resume Cover Letters – What Do You Need to Include?

A resume cover letter is a letter that we send mostly when are applying for a job. It provides additional information about us and also highlights our special interest in that job. A good resume cover letter shows how our unique background fits the needs of the company that advertises the job we are interested in. This letter must be made to align with our job profile and the needs of the job as well.
The structure of a resume cover letter follows a certain pattern. You must begin by writing your address details (name, city, country, area code number, telephone number and e-mail address). The date comes next and the details of the employer (title, department, employer’s name and address). Then an opening formula containing the name of the employer (if known) should follow.
The first paragraph must contain the reason you are writing for. Here you must include the very position you are applying for and where exactly you have heard of it. If there is any mutual contact, it is a good idea to mention his or her name; your cover letter will get more chances to be read through if you do.
The style in which you are writing is very important. You must show how passionate and enthusiastic you are about the prospect of being chosen to work for that company; that will make a good impression for sure.
In the body of your resume cover letter you are supposed to show why you are a desirable candidate for the position in question. Here you are expected to give details on your qualifications that you have written about in your resume and try convincing the reader that you are the best choice for the job that has been advertised. Be explicit and bring arguments to sustain the idea that your qualifications really meet the job requirements. Any achievements that you had in the past must be mentioned in this part of the cover letter as well as your special ability to solve problems. The body is usually made up of two paragraphs, with your eligibility for the job plus a list of skills and abilities in the first paragraph and some points about your qualities that are not mentioned in the resume but make you better than any other competent in the second.
The final paragraph of the resume cover letter is where you directly ask for an interview, being very specific about the time that you are available for it. You should also give any details about where you can be reached so that the employer may do that without to much trouble (phone number and e-mail address will do). Don’t forget to be polite and thank the employer for taking a moment to read your cover letter and resume.
A polite closing formula will end the resume cover letter, with your signature and full name typed.
Remember to be as explicit and concise as possible without overlooking the natural fluency that makes a letter readable. The form in which you address a potential employer is the first step towards getting a chance for an interview.
