A job interview is like theater. You play the role of a job seeker and the interviewer — most of the time is the employer. The trick here is NOT in no way be yourself. If someone has ever told you to simply be yourself at an interview – they’re 100% wrong.
You’re playing the role of a job seeker – you need a job, and there is competition after that job. And your task here is to impress the employer the most.
I screwed up in my first ever interview because I was applying for what seemed to be a laid-back IT company, so I dressed up fairly casually – knowing their non-corporate culture, and was pretty much my laid back self.
This resulted in a total fail. Even if the company is all about casual culture, the part of getting into that company is still official. So choose your outfit wisely. A strict suit outlines your professionalism.

I think it is important to be yourself when you interview for a new position because if you pretend to be someone else, you and the employer who selects you for the position have the potential to be gravely disappointed.
If you are pretending to be a different person to get a job, you are forgetting that your new job will require you to act like this different person. Everyone has a “professional” face they present in the workplace but the farther you diverge from your true self for this “professional” personality, the unhappier you will be working in a position where it’s possible you will never be able to be comfortable, as yourself.
I’m not saying it hasn’t happened that people landed the job pretending to be one way and became successful in the new environment operating more comfortably, but it’s a slippery slope- and one to proceed forward on with care.
