Don’t Leave Out a Cover Letter For Resumes
Posted on 28. Apr, 2009 posted by Bill in Employment News
It is very important to include a cover letter for resumes that you send out to potential employers. A cover letter gives you the opportunity to introduce yourself and establish a line of contact with an employer. Cover letters show professionalism and allow your personality to show.
The sad truth is that many people leave out the cover letter when they are applying for a job, because they either don’t understand their purpose or are unsure how to write one. Other people use a generic cover letter that they send out with every resume. These generic cover letters do not show an employer that you are interested in working for them, and the resumes of applicants who send them are often thrown in the recycling bin.
To prevent this from happening to you, make it a point to attach a customized cover letter for resumes you send out to any employer. A cover letter should include the title of the job you are applying for and the name of the employer. Customize it to the employer as best you can.
Cover letters show the employer that you care enough about the position to research what it is about and then create a customized letter indicating why you think you’d be best for that job.
There may be hundreds, or even thousands of other applicants who are applying for the same job you are, so anything you do to set yourself apart from the others is going to benefit you. When you include a customized cover letter with your resume, you will immediately be a more likely candidate to succeed than anybody who didn’t include one.
Using a cover letter for resumes that you send to employers will benefit you greatly if you are serious about landing that dream job. Your chances of getting that first interview will be greatly increased.
