What to Say When Emailing a Resume

If you are applying for a position online there are some things you need to know before you click the send button on your resume. This article is meant to help you avoid some of the pit falls that people make in emailing their resume.

First is introduce yourself and what position you are applying for. This does not have to be your life story just a simple introduction will be fine.Next you want to list briefly again if this is in an email the person has other things to do other than read about how you were named Employee of the Month five times at McBurger. By this point of the resume the person reading is probably leaning towards the trash or is still reading. Either way use words that will grab their attention.

If you are using a site like Monster then you will basically be able to build your resume and make it look professional with their online tools. If however you are going this all alone then you need to find out what format the employer wants the resume sent in. Most places use an plain text or ASCII format.

Write a brief overview as to any experience you have in the particular field you are applying for. In addition take the chance to market yourself to the employer. This is no time to be shy especially since the only thing to judge you by is an email. you are not there to make that first impression your email should do that for you.

The last piece of advice I have is to spell check your work thoroughly. again you are not there to explain any mistakes in your resume. After you write the resume run it through a spell checker. Then read it out loud to yourself and see how it sounds to you. After you have done all of that have a friend look over it and read it aloud to make sure nothing was missed. The last thing you want to do is make sure your resume is attached to the email and in the correct format. after all of this is done you are ready to hit the send button. If all has went right you will get a positive response back within a couple of days.
