It can help you to focus on where your career path is heading and whether or not you need to switch gears at all. That happened to my husband, who felt he hit a wall at his last job. But if he stayed in that job while looking for new work, he never would have been able to see that he had veered off of his career goals. We took a break to travel and he came back refocused and energized to find a job that got him back on the right path.
